The planned launch of the Bitcoin hard fork eCash will start on Aug. 23 using a three-stage rollout instead of a single switch, a change outlined by Paul Sztorc, co-founder and chief executive officer of LayerTwo Labs and a longtime advocate of drivechains (a proposal for Bitcoin-linked sidechains). The move marks a procedural change to how the fork is set to go live rather than an all-at-once transition. The report also says GMO Coin has warned it will partially suspend BTC trading in connection with the event. Sztorc is known as a proponent of drivechains under BIP-300/301, which are proposals designed to let Bitcoin interact with sidechains while keeping activity tied to the main network.
