Anthropic PBC has agreed a $9.1 billion, 20-year deal with Riot Platforms Inc. to secure computing capacity for artificial intelligence, according to people familiar with the matter. Riot, a Bitcoin mining company that recently began selling AI data center capacity, disclosed earlier on Monday that it had signed an agreement to provide 191 megawatts of computing from its Rockdale, Texas, campus to a "leading frontier AI" company. That company is Anthropic, the people said. The arrangement highlights the Claude maker's effort to lock in enough infrastructure to meet customer demand as AI companies compete for power, chips and data center space.
