Nvidia CEO defends $500 billion AI buildout as infrastructure bet

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said a $500 billion AI investment push reflects what he sees as the computer industry’s most important platform shift in 60 years. In an interview with CNBC, Huang said computing is becoming infrastructure much like electricity and the internet, something every company and every country will need to build. He said that makes the buildout exceptionally capital-intensive, with each 1 gigawatt of AI infrastructure costing about $50 billion to $60 billion across energy, land, electricity, factories and computing capacity. Huang added that Nvidia is also changing from a company that sells chips into an AI factory platform, which he described as an infrastructure asset capable of generating ongoing revenue. As demand for AI computing power expands, he said the investment wave around data centers and AI infrastructure is only beginning.
