The SEC (U.S. securities regulator) canceled a public meeting scheduled for Aug. 14 that was set to cover a new regulatory proposal for digital assets. The agenda included discussion of a separate securities issuance framework for investment contracts tied to certain digital assets, a topic that goes to how some crypto-related offerings could be structured under U.S. securities law. The agency told Reuters the meeting was postponed because of "unexpected scheduling issues" and did not announce a replacement date. The cancellation comes after SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said on CNBC on July 27 that the agency was prepared to craft its own digital-asset rules if the Senate does not pass the Clarity Act.
