U.S. equities were mixed in Monday morning trading, with the Dow Jones index down around 150 points while the Nasdaq posted a slight gain and the S&P 500 moved lower. After the open, the Dow fell 0.31% to 53,564.33, the Nasdaq rose 0.03% to 26,735.95, and the S&P 500 slipped 0.12% to 7,776.72. Information technology stocks outperformed with a 0.4% gain, while consumer staples shares were the weakest group, down 0.8%. The session’s key economic release showed the New York Fed’s Empire State Manufacturing Index climbing to 20.6 in August from 15.6 a month earlier, above market expectations of 11, pointing to stronger manufacturing activity in New York state. Among individual movers, IP Strategy Holdings surged 277%, INVO Fertility jumped 136% after better-than-expected second-quarter EPS, and Trugolf Holdings rose 62%. On the downside, EyePoint Pharmaceuticals fell 70% after topline Phase 3 trial results for DURAVYU, while Fast Track Entertainment lost 40% and Nexgel dropped 38% following weak quarterly results. Commodity prices were mostly higher, with oil, gold and silver rising, while copper declined. Overseas, European markets were mostly lower, while Asian markets finished mostly higher.
