President Donald Trump said Iran would not agree to the terms he considers necessary to end the war with the United States and said he was not seeking to extend the interim agreement reached in June. Trump repeated that the U.S. objective was to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and earlier said Iran should "put up the white flag of surrender." He also criticized Oman amid separate talks involving Oman and Iran over restoring commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil and liquefied natural gas route that had carried 20% of global supplies before U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran began in late February. The shipping dispute has pushed up fuel prices and added pressure on Trump ahead of the November midterm elections, though he said the vote was not shaping his Iran strategy.
