More than 1,500 institutions hold shares in SpaceX (SPCX), but 23 investors control 83% of the disclosed stock. About 1,340 firms with fewer than 100,000 shares each account for less than 1%. Institutional holdings filings, known as 13F filings (quarterly reports of U.S. institutional investments), reported by Bloomberg and Yahoo Finance on the 17th showed that 23 institutions held more than 10 million shares apiece. Excluding Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Alphabet was the largest institutional holder with 551.2 million Class A common shares, or about 7.2%, valued at roughly $94 billion. Nvidia held 122.8 million shares worth about $21 billion, while AMD held a $565.5 million stake. Fidelity Investments owned 302.6 million shares across its managed funds and accounts, and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund held about 154.1 million shares worth roughly $26.3 billion. Harvard Management reported a $1.8 billion position comprising 12.9 million shares, making it the largest university endowment investor; SpaceX represented 51.9% of its publicly traded equity funds. Other holders included Gigafund Management, BlackRock, Baron Capital, South Korea's National Pension Service, Brazil's Moreira Salles investment family and Nick Pritzker's family office. The ownership disclosure emerged as early shareholders' restricted shares began unlocking in stages. Although about 912 million shares became available for sale early this month, SpaceX rose 6% on the 6th and 16% the following day after the stock had fallen from about $225 intraday to around $105. Another 319 million shares are due to be released this week, with further tranches arriving every several weeks through October. The stock has recovered to around $150, its first trading price on June 12 and the strongest technical resistance level since listing, after rebounding about 40% from its low. Baillie Gifford investment manager Luke Ward said the firm would remain a long-term growth investor for clients.
