US equities traded above the flatline on Tuesday after the Treasury said it would double the limit on buybacks of long-term notes and bonds. The move added to other measures aimed at controlling a recent surge in longer-term benchmark borrowing costs and raised expectations of greater dollar liquidity, supporting stocks. The S&P 500, Dow and Nasdaq 100 were slightly higher, with gains spread across most sectors. Software application companies and hyperscalers (large-scale cloud computing providers) mostly advanced, while Apple, Salesforce and Tesla each gained 1%. Retail stocks also rose after TJX, Target and Lowe's reported second-quarter earnings. Moderna shares doubled and Merck surged 10% after a trial of their joint vaccine reduced melanoma recurrence. US Treasury yields remained in focus ahead of minutes from the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee).
