U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Oman over its efforts to reach an unannounced agreement with Iran to manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to two regional officials. Washington opposes parts of the proposed deal, including joint Iranian and Omani management of the passage’s exit route and Oman’s plan to collect voluntary security and environmental fees from vessels. Trump later described the strait as U.S. territory, while Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi called the idea a delusion. Iran said the waterway would remain closed until the United States lifts sanctions and a blockade, releases frozen assets, ends military operations and fulfills other conditions. The dispute comes as missiles and projectiles struck or threatened ships and regional territory, including attacks near Oman, Yemen and the UAE.
