The Monetary Authority of Singapore, MAS (Singapore’s financial regulator), is planning a hedge fund investment program as part of measures to strengthen the city-state’s asset-management competitiveness. Suhaimi Zainul-Abidin of Quantedge Capital said the program could be more significant for its sovereign-adjacent status than for the capital deployed. Although MAS has not disclosed further details, the allocation could directly increase assets under management and serve as a signal to the market if it follows rigorous due diligence. The program may also encourage firms to expand their Singapore operations, provided it includes long-duration capital, or money invested with a long time horizon.
