Lighter’s LIT token rose 28% in 24 hours on Aug. 20 to about $2.95, making it the biggest gainer among the top 100 cryptocurrencies, according to CoinGecko. The token climbed from roughly $2.30 to an intraday high near $2.97 and gained more than 20% over seven days. The rally has been linked partly to speculation that Lighter could benefit if decentralized perpetual futures gain a regulated route into the United States. That speculation intensified after Ethereum developer Eric Conner noted that Lighter founder and CEO Vladimir Novakovski sits on the CFTC (U.S. derivatives regulator) Innovation Advisory Committee, whose inaugural meeting is scheduled for Thursday in Washington. The CFTC lists Novakovski among members from Coinbase, Uniswap Labs, Kraken, Polymarket and other crypto and financial companies. Lighter has not announced plans to offer U.S. perpetual futures, and the CFTC has not approved such a move. A previously inactive buyer also accumulated 648,876 LIT worth about $1.84 million, while Robinhood Wallet integration, an 11 million-LIT community allocation and Paribu’s Aug. 19 listing added potential sources of demand. Technically, LIT broke above a two-week $2.20-$2.50 consolidation range. The next key levels are $3, $3.12 and $3.69, although indicators showing unusually strong momentum also leave the token exposed to a short-term pullback.
