US Vice President JD Vance said the United States has entered a "new phase" in its war against Iran, with economic pressure now Washington's "most effective tool" for achieving its objectives. He said securing enough oil and gas to ease pressure on American fuel and energy prices could also intensify economic pressure on Iran and alter its calculations. Vance acknowledged the strategy was a "delicate dance" because Iran could respond with economic pressure against the United States. His remarks came after OFAC (U.S. sanctions enforcement agency) added 10 individuals to its Iran-linked sanctions list. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent separately said Washington would impose the "toughest sanctions in history" and pursue the greatest coordinated economic isolation in the history of the world.
