MANTRA Chain remained halted on Aug. 21 after the team said an attacker exploited a vulnerability in an upstream dependency. Transactions, transfers and staking (locking crypto to earn rewards) were unavailable while the mainnet remained paused. MANTRA said it was tracing fund movements, working with exchange partners and assessing the incident’s complete scope, while the asset impact of the attacker’s activity remained unconfirmed. The project released patched software, v8.4.0, and began testing it on the DuKong testnet. Validators were instructed to keep mainnet nodes offline until MANTRA announces a coordinated restart. The team was targeting a restart later on Aug. 21, subject to clean testing and readiness across the wider validator set. MANTRA said user funds were unaffected by the halt itself and that it had taken a full network state snapshot before beginning the restart process, but that assurance did not resolve questions about the attack’s potential asset impact. Deposits and withdrawals for the token remained paused on affected venues, and users did not need to take action while the network was offline.
