The dollar faces downside risk ahead of remarks by U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent and a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Wosh at the Jackson Hole symposium, Mitsubishi UFJ strategist Derek Halpenny said in a report on Aug. 24. After the U.S. Treasury announced last week that it would increase the scale of long-term bond buybacks, Bessent may later release details of a fiscal consolidation plan. Halpenny said Wosh may continue to offer limited guidance on future policy. If credible fiscal consolidation measures have still not been announced by then, the long-end bond market could be particularly vulnerable, he said.
