Samsung Electronics and SK hynix fell more than 2% in premarket trading on the 25th as a selloff in U.S. chip stocks spread to South Korea. Samsung was trading at 250,500 won at 8:03 a.m., down 2.53% from the previous session, while SK hynix stood at 1,629,000 won, down 2.51%, according to Nextrade (NXT). SK Square fell 3.90% and Samsung Electro-Mechanics declined 2.43%. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell 0.3% and 0.8%. Micron Technology dropped 5.9%, SanDisk lost 6.5% and Nvidia declined 2.9%. Analysts said the correction began in Korea after Samsung Electronics announced its shareholder return plan before spreading to U.S. markets, with caution ahead of Nvidia's earnings adding pressure. Nvidia has fallen for seven consecutive sessions, its first such losing streak in four years. Analysts said there were no clear signs of deterioration in memory prices or corporate earnings forecasts, suggesting the decline reflected a short-term shift in supply and demand rather than damaged chip-stock fundamentals. Steadier U.S. Treasury yields, lower oil prices and bargain-hunting may support a rebound in Korean stocks.
