Volkswagen AG CEO Oliver Blume said further cost reductions are needed at the company’s Emden plant, one of five German sites threatened with closure. Blume thanked employees for their efforts but said Volkswagen must measure itself against the best-performing locations in Europe. He said labor costs are more than double those at comparable European locations, while factory costs at other plants remain significantly lower.
