Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat and Syrian economy and industry minister Nidal al-Shaar discussed measures to achieve a $10 billion bilateral trade volume target during the 63rd Damascus International Fair. Their talks covered ways to ease trade, particularly transportation and customs gates, as well as the potential role of Turkish private companies in Syria’s reconstruction. The ministers also reaffirmed commitments to agreements reached at the Türkiye-Syria Joint Economic and Trade Commission meeting in April. Bolat separately met Ahmad Rawad Ramadan, the newly appointed head of the Syrian Investment Agency, to discuss Turkish firms’ investment interests, a predictable investment environment and planned organized industrial zone investments in Kamune and Saraqib. Turkish businesspeople at the meeting outlined long-term investment plans and expectations aimed at increasing production and employment in the region.
