European equities paused near one-week highs on Thursday as investors weighed Nvidia Corp.’s stronger-than-expected results against caution in industrial and consumer stocks. The Stoxx Europe 600 slipped 0.1%, Germany’s DAX was flat, France’s CAC 40 fell 0.2% and London’s FTSE 100 declined 0.4%. Nvidia reported quarterly revenue that more than doubled from a year earlier on demand for artificial intelligence hardware. CEO Jensen Huang forecast outsized growth over the coming year, while the company’s current-quarter revenue guidance exceeded Wall Street expectations. Management also said fiscal 2028 revenue growth could reach approximately 70%, compared with a 44% consensus estimate. Nvidia shares rose as much as 5.6% in aftermarket trading, ending a pattern of negative post-earnings reactions in recent quarters. ASML Holding NV gained 2.5%, while STMicroelectronics NV, Infineon Technologies AG and BE Semiconductors rose between 2% and 4% as global tech hyperscalers accelerate capital spending to secure hardware allocations. Germany’s consumer sentiment index rose to -26.6 points going into September, helped by improved economic and income expectations despite continued caution over discretionary spending. Brent crude fell 0.5% to $87.40 a barrel, heading for a fourth straight daily decline, as diplomatic efforts involving the U.S., Iran, Qatar and Oman eased immediate concerns about supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.
