An attacker exploited a vulnerability in Cosmos EVM (an Ethereum-compatible execution layer for Cosmos chains) on Nesa Chain, inflating an NES balance by roughly 200 times and bridging about $50 million in tokens to Ethereum. The tokens were divided among eight wallets and sold for ETH through decentralized exchanges, but severe slippage reduced the apparent gain to about $60,000: roughly $255,000 was spent and approximately $315,000 recovered. Cosmos Labs urged chains running vulnerable versions to halt and upgrade. KiiChain, TAC and MANTRA have also disclosed incidents, while the latest exploit’s precise root cause remains undisclosed. The episode follows other crypto security incidents, including about $247.4 million in losses reported for July and a recent SAND exploit involving unauthorized minting across cross-chain infrastructure.
