The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index rose 2.1% to 3,107 on Thursday, extending its advance to a sixth consecutive session and reaching its highest level since June 3. The index tracks shipping rates for capesize, panamax and supramax vessels. The capesize index, covering vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, gained 2.1% for a sixth day to 5,138 points, also its highest level since June 3. The panamax index, covering vessels carrying about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2.1% for a fifth session to 2,292 points, its highest since August 12. The supramax index for smaller vessels edged up 0.1% to 1,645 points.
