Iran could allow ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz if the United States accepts Tehran’s conditions, according to Mohsen Rezaei, Iran’s security chief. Rezaei said mediating countries had requested the terms for reopening the waterway and that Iran was preparing a list, with an end to the war in the region identified as a key condition. If the United States agrees, ships would be permitted to use a designated central channel. Iran has also agreed with Oman to establish shipping lanes, with part of the route in Omani territorial waters and the remainder in Iranian waters. Rezaei separately rejected as false allegations that Iran had attempted to assassinate a son of US President Donald Trump.
