Iran is preparing conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz after mediators asked Tehran to specify its demands, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said. Rezaei said Iran and Oman had agreed on a shipping corridor through the strait, with sections in Omani and Iranian waters, and that vessels could use a designated central channel if the U.S. met Iran’s conditions. Those conditions include ending the regional war, lifting what Tehran calls a blockade of Iranian ports, paying compensation and removing sanctions. Iran and Oman were still working on the agreement’s details on Wednesday, after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the countries had agreed on sharing control of the waterway and its revenues. Shipping through the strait has largely stopped since the war began in February, despite ceasefire agreements announced by Washington and Tehran in April and June that were intended to restore maritime traffic but did not hold.
