The government will introduce a 1 million Korean won Marriage Support Fund next year for couples who register their marriage, regardless of income. The payment can be claimed only once in a lifetime and will replace the existing 1 million won marriage tax credit per couple, which excluded people who paid little or no tax because of low income. A Childcare Support Fund will also provide between 1 million and 20 million won per child, depending on birth order and the family’s region of residence. Couples living outside the capital region, for example, will receive more for their first child, and payments will be made in four installments. The government will also launch a Basic Child Allowance by combining the existing child allowance, parental benefits and first-meeting vouchers. The new payment is expected to range from 200,000 to 400,000 won, or two to three times the current child allowance. The measures form part of the Comprehensive Investment Promotion Strategy by Youth Growth Stage, announced at the Youth Budget Unboxing 2027 event at Cheong Wa Dae on the 28th.
