U.S. stock markets finished the week lower after Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh signaled that additional monetary policy steps, including a possible rate hike, may be needed if inflation remains above target. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.02%, or 9.45 points, to 53,559.99; the S&P 500 declined 0.25%, or 19.23 points, to 7,711.76; and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.52%, or 138.93 points, to 26,402.42. The VIX (market volatility gauge) slipped 0.55% to 14.43. Speaking at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, Warsh said recent personal consumption expenditures and consumer prices index readings had been better than expected but did not show meaningful improvement in underlying trends. European markets moved higher, with the Stoxx Europe 600 gaining 0.51% to 655.16 points.
