Nvidia, the world’s leading AI chipmaker, is set to report second-quarter earnings next week as its suspension of transactions under the AI Compute Partnership Program raises questions about its broader business model and regulatory exposure. The program was designed to help smaller AI cloud companies finance Nvidia chips and data centers in exchange for revenue sharing, with Nvidia originally set to receive 50% of provider revenue above a specified threshold. Nvidia withdrew from the program last week, less than two months after its launch, although it said the broader model remains operational and continues to evolve. The initiative initially included Sharon AI and Firmus Technologies, and reportedly imposed conditions on customer selection and capacity allocation that frustrated some potential partners. Investor scrutiny has also intensified over Nvidia’s role in financing arrangements involving its customers, including $500 billion in financing from major U.S. financial institutions and up to $105 billion in guarantees for OpenAI’s data-center lease. Nvidia’s latest quarterly revenue was $96.22 billion, up 106% year over year, while data-center revenue rose 117% to $89 billion. The company forecast roughly $108 billion in revenue for the next quarter and about 70% growth for the following fiscal year. Options markets imply a 5.4% post-earnings stock move, below recent historical levels, though that could still represent about $280 billion in market capitalization. Investors will focus on guidance, AI-chip demand, margins, cloud-provider capital spending and whether Nvidia can expand its commercial role without increasing antitrust risks.
