Six Bitcoin wallets created between 2011 and 2014 resumed activity, transferring a combined 553.59 BTC between Aug. 16 and 26, worth approximately $40 million at current prices. One wallet had been inactive for more than 15 years, highlighting renewed movement from Bitcoin’s earliest years. Five wallets sent funds to addresses not linked to known cryptocurrency exchanges, providing no clear evidence of an immediate sale. The remaining wallet transferred 40 BTC to Boerse Stuttgart Digital, a Germany-based cryptocurrency custody and transaction services provider, though Galaxy Research said the move could reflect custody or another institutional transaction rather than a sale. Alex Thorn, Galaxy Digital Research Head, said activity in long-dormant Bitcoin, or "sleeping Bitcoin," had fallen to its lowest level since the third quarter of 2022 by the second quarter of 2026. Thorn also predicted that transfers from long-inactive wallets during 2026 could total less than half the amount recorded in 2025.
