Kim Yong-beom, presidential chief of staff for policy, completed his duties on September 1 as the first chief of the Policy Office under the Lee Jae Myung government. In farewell remarks and a Facebook post, he said that although substantial work remained, it was time to step down and allow others to continue it. Kim thanked staff for enduring his demanding management style and praised the Policy Office as a source of South Korea’s top talent. He said he had seen the deliberation, persuasion and coordination required to turn policies into public outcomes, and expressed pride in the results achieved. Kim also apologized for leaving early and adding to staff’s workload, while saying he would later speak publicly about their intense efforts and the people behind the government’s achievements.
