The MEME memecoin on Robinhood Chain rose more than 150% on Sunday after traders noticed that Robinhood co-founder and chief executive Vlad Tenev followed the project’s official X account. The token is paired with tokenized AMC stock but is not issued by Robinhood or AMC Entertainment. A trader cited a jump in market capitalization from $40 million to $150 million, while a one-hour chart showed an increase to about $110.95 million, or roughly 179%. DEXScreener data showed the token moving from roughly $0.4 to as high as $0.1544 before retreating. At 10:45 AM UTC on September 7, CoinGecko data showed MEME trading at $0.1174 with 24-hour volume of $174 million. Tenev and Robinhood did not publish an endorsement, and a follow is not a listing, partnership or investment recommendation. The move followed a public dispute between AMC chief executive Adam Aron and Robinhood over tokenized stocks. Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum layer-2 network (a secondary scaling network), launched on July 1 for real-world assets and tokenized stocks, while Tenev has said it also works well for memes. The episode highlights the speed at which social-media attention can affect thinly traded memecoins, but does not resolve the AMC-Robinhood securities dispute or turn Tenev’s follow into an endorsement.
