Alex Jones warned XRP holders that governments might seek greater control over private assets if the global financial system faces a serious crisis. In a video posted from his Jones X account, he said regulators could develop mechanisms to freeze or control private crypto assets, including XRP, during a systemic financial crisis. Jones compared the possibility with U.S. restrictions on private gold ownership in 1933 and referred to earlier allegations involving the FDIC (U.S. deposit insurance agency) and European authorities during a banking collapse. He provided no official documents showing that authorities were preparing a coordinated plan to seize XRP or other private assets, and said he was not making a price prediction or presenting himself as a cryptocurrency expert. Vet, an XRP Ledger validator, disputed the technical premise of directly seizing XRP held in a self-custody wallet, where the owner controls the private keys. Vet said governments can regulate centralized exchanges and custody services, but XRP in self-custody is not a bank deposit and would not enter the FDIC liquidation process following another bank’s bankruptcy.
