Ryanair cancelled 260 flights on Tuesday after a major air traffic failure halted departures across Britain, affecting approximately 48,000 passengers. CEO Michael O’Leary said the disruption caused immediate losses of £2.5 million to £3 million ($3.38 million to $4.06 million), covering passenger rights, care and compensation. He said the total losses could rise to five to six million dollars. The airline expected to cancel 30 more flights on Wednesday because crews were in the wrong locations and working irregular hours. NATS, Britain’s air traffic control service, told Ryanair that the failure resembled a 2023 incident caused by a rogue flight plan containing a duplicate airport entry, which brought down the system.
