Prime Minister Han Seong-sook instructed South Korean ministries to secure oil supplies for November and beyond as armed clashes between the U.S. and Iran around the Strait of Hormuz intensify and international oil prices surge. At an emergency economic review meeting in Seoul on the morning of the 10th, Han said more than 90% of the oil volume needed through October had been secured compared with the previous year, with supply and demand currently stable. She ordered real-time monitoring of the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, checks on oil and critical raw-material supply trends, measures to reduce pressure from higher oil prices, implementation of Chuseok livelihood-stabilization measures, and swift responses to excessive financial and foreign-exchange market volatility. The meeting was the first in six weeks, following the previous session on July 29.
