Indonesia’s IDX Composite hovered around 6,665 in early Thursday trading, extending its losses after Wall Street fell for a third consecutive session overnight. Escalating U.S.–Iran tensions pushed Brent crude above USD100/bbl, raising inflation concerns, while U.S. Treasury yields climbed despite a larger-than-usual USD6 billion debt buyback. Domestic investors remained cautious about fiscal risks from elevated oil prices, although officials indicated that the state budget remained secure. Traders also awaited July retail sales data after June recorded a third monthly decline. Losses were moderated by August consumer sentiment reaching a three-month high, supported by improved household finances and a brighter economic outlook. Financial, health-care and non-cyclical stocks underperformed, while energy, technology and basic-materials shares helped limit the benchmark’s decline.
