Hyundai Engineering has been selected as preferred bidder for two South Korean power projects worth a combined 2.3826 trillion won, or approximately $1.8 billion. The Yongin Combined Heat and Power Plant will provide 1,050MW of electricity and 517 Gcal per hour of heat for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, while the New Honam Combined Cycle Power Plant will add 500MW at the former Honam Thermal Power Plant site in Yeosu. Both facilities will initially use LNG and are designed to transition to hydrogen co-firing and eventually hydrogen-only operation. Hyundai Engineering says the awards strengthen its position in energy infrastructure and support its expansion into hydrogen power, small modular reactor auxiliary facilities and nuclear fusion.
