Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, announced on September 9 local time, replaces Face ID with Touch ID (fingerprint authentication) after switching its inner display camera from the space-intensive TrueDepth system to a more compact FaceTime camera. The Touch ID sensor is built into the side button and works whether the phone is folded or unfolded, while users wearing an unlocked Apple Watch will reportedly be able to unlock the device automatically. The iPhone Duo is 5.2 millimeters thick when unfolded, weighs 254 grams, and has 7.6-inch inner and 5.4-inch outer displays. Its Grade 5 titanium frame, IP68 rating, matte nano-texture inner screen and multi-component hinge are designed to improve durability and reduce the visibility of the crease. Goldman Sachs described the $1,999 starting price as affordable compared with Samsung’s $2,099.99 Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and retained shipment forecasts of 14 million units in its base case and 35 million in its bull case for 2026. The bank also identified potential benefits for Apple suppliers, while BlackRock executive Fabio Osta said AI investment is reshaping private-market allocations and recommended a 50/30/20 portfolio for wealthy clients.
