Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said the company has not changed its AI semiconductor revenue forecasts of $115 billion for fiscal 2027 and $230 billion for fiscal 2028, despite a market selloff after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urged a slowdown in frontier AI development. Amodei’s position received public support from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, while Broadcom shares fell 4.8% and the iShares Semiconductor ETF dropped 5.6% on Monday. Tan said demand for compute infrastructure, including inference compute (processing used to generate model outputs), should remain strong. He also said Anthropic is on track to become Broadcom’s largest custom chip customer in 2027 and retain that position through 2028, displacing Google’s long-held position. The debate comes as Anthropic prepares for a potential Nasdaq IPO after reporting more than $11.5 billion in second-quarter revenue, adjusted operating profit of $559 million and revenue nearly 15 times higher than the same period of 2025. Investors and analysts remain divided over whether calls for slower AI development will reduce infrastructure spending, while Tan argues AI will drive productivity and broader economic value.
