Saudi Aramco is working to bypass damage to its 1,200-kilometer East-West Pipeline and restore roughly half its capacity within days, with full restoration targeted in approximately six weeks, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. Reuters said the pipeline had carried 4 million to 5 million barrels per day before drone attacks forced its shutdown last week, equivalent to 4% to 5% of global oil supply. Brent crude, the benchmark oil price, was trading near $105 on Wednesday. The pipeline became a critical export route after the Strait of Hormuz was severely disrupted following the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran that began on February 28, 2026. With the sea route largely closed, the line was Saudi Arabia’s main route to Red Sea terminals at Yanbu and onward global markets. Its shutdown last Friday left traders estimating that Saudi Arabia had only five to seven days of export inventory at Yanbu before its ability to supply global markets was critically curtailed. Saudi Arabia blamed drones operated by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq. The Associated Press, cited by StreetInsider, separately reported that repairs to a major pumping facility could take three to five weeks, with partial operations possible during that period. Bloomberg also reported Wednesday that Saudi Arabia was increasing prompt crude sales routed outside the Strait of Hormuz. The volume that the bypass can carry has not been disclosed; based on pre-attack throughput, about half capacity implies approximately 2 million to 2.5 million barrels per day. A partial restart in the coming days would ease the most immediate supply risk and could weigh on Brent prices, which have climbed sharply during the disruption.
