A group of 10 banks is providing a $22 billion chip loan to support Crux AI, the cloud venture launched by Blackstone and Alphabet in May. The banks include Goldman Sachs Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, Barclays, BNP Paribas SA and Bank of Nova Scotia. Blackstone plans to invest an initial $5 billion in equity to help bring 500 megawatts of data-center capacity online in 2027, with further expansion planned. The debt will finance Google’s custom Tensor Processing Units (Google’s specialized AI chips) and will be secured by the chips’ value and Crux AI customer contracts, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The financing comes as technology companies increase spending on data centers, power and specialized chips for artificial-intelligence applications.
