Amazon has blocked Meta’s Muse from browsing and purchasing products on its platform, less than two weeks after the AI shopping agent launched. The decision reflects concerns about customer security, user experience and control of the customer relationship, even as Meta shares rose more than 11% Monday and Muse became the No. 1 free app download on Apple’s and Google’s app stores. Most AI shopping bots still support product research rather than purchases, but Coveo says only 16% of shoppers are comfortable delegating buying decisions to AI. McKinsey estimates U.S. revenue from AI-mediated search and purchase automation could reach $1 trillion by 2030. Amazon’s stance contrasts with Walmart’s partnerships with Google and OpenAI and comes as Amazon develops its own Alexa-based shopping assistant.
