Kakao Pay and Kakao Bank have signed a memorandum of understanding with Fireblocks to explore secure digital asset infrastructure and business opportunities in Korea. The companies will focus on stablecoin distribution frameworks suited to local regulatory, security and service requirements, while testing their applicability through proof-of-concept exercises. The initiative combines Kakao’s nationwide reach and fintech and banking expertise with Fireblocks’ institutional infrastructure, which the company says has been deployed by more than 2,500 institutions, including over 100 banks. Fireblocks says its platform supports digital asset activity across more than 200 blockchains and has secured $16 trillion in transactions.
