The benchmark KOSPI climbed more than 1% to around 7,120 on Tuesday, extending gains for a third consecutive session as a rally in AI-related U.S. stocks lifted Korean chipmakers. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 2.3% to a record high, while the U.S. semiconductor sector also advanced strongly, bolstering optimism over AI demand. Samsung Electronics rose more than 2% and SK hynix gained nearly 3%. Other notable risers included SK Square, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Hyundai Motor, LG Electronics, Hyundai Mobis, LS Electric Co and SK Inc. Lower oil prices and U.S. Treasury yields further eased concerns about imported inflation and borrowing costs. Investors remained focused on the upcoming U.S.-China summit, where AI, tariffs and rare earths are expected to be discussed, with the outcome potentially affecting trade and technology supply chains.
