Taiwan’s benchmark TAIEX rose 692 points, or 1.5%, to 48,411 in Tuesday morning trading, marking a record high and its fifth consecutive advance. Electronic technology gained 1.8%, led by strong moves in MediaTek, ASE Technology Holding, United Microelectronics and Unimicron Technology, while TSMC advanced 0.6%. The index followed gains on Wall Street, where AI (artificial intelligence) stocks performed strongly, as oil prices and US Treasury yields eased. Optimism about the Trump-Xi summit this week also supported sentiment, with AI and tariffs expected to be discussed. The TAIEX first surpassed 48,000 on June 23, 2026, reaching 48,219 intraday before retreating.
