The KOSPI rose 0.15% to 7,025.80 on the 22nd after opening 2.20% higher and reaching 7,171.44, as buying in South Korean semiconductor stocks followed a rally in U.S. chipmakers linked to Meta’s artificial intelligence (AI) agent. The index later moved between gains and losses as October West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures rebounded 1.6% into the $97-per-barrel range, reviving concerns about oil prices. Samsung Electronics gained 0.91%, while SK Hynix fell 1.50%. Retail investors were the main net sellers on the KOSPI, while foreign investors were net buyers. The KOSDAQ fell 0.23% to 834.38. The KOSPI remained above 7,000 for a second consecutive session but did not break the 7,100 or 7,200 levels during the day, raising questions about the durability of its upward momentum.
