Shopify shares jumped about 7% Tuesday after the company expanded its integration with Meta’s new AI agent, Muse, enabling the assistant to complete purchases across Shopify-powered stores through Shop Pay. The deal places Shopify in the emerging agentic commerce market, where AI systems can search, compare and complete transactions for users rather than simply recommend products. Shopify is positioning its merchant infrastructure as the transaction layer behind those agents: its dashboard lists Meta as an AI sales channel, allowing sellers to expose products through Shopify Catalog and manage direct checkout access. The company is also developing its own AI commerce tools, including Sidekick and Agentic Storefronts. The move comes as autonomous payments advance beyond demonstrations, with Mastercard developing agentic payment infrastructure and blockchain projects testing machine-to-machine transactions and programmable spending controls. The XRP Ledger has been used for nearly one million AI-agent transactions, while Shopify has also been linked to an XRP Ledger payment and rewards app aimed at millions of merchants.
