U.S. stocks were mixed Tuesday as oil prices declined for a fifth consecutive session. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.4% to a fresh intraday record, the S&P 500 was basically flat and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 194 points, or 0.4%. West Texas Intermediate crude dropped to just above $94 a barrel after unverified reports that Iran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the U.S. eased military pressure. The CNBC Investing Club said its S&P Oscillator remained firmly oversold after Monday's rally, prompting it to add to FedEx and BNY following pullbacks while funding the purchases by trimming Meta, which continued rising after an 11% gain Monday ahead of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's keynote Wednesday night at Meta Connect. TJX Companies extended its rebound as oil prices and Treasury yields declined, although the club decided to direct new funds to FedEx and BNY rather than buy more TJX. The club maintained its longer-term view that TJX's value-focused model and access to excess retail inventory support its outlook. CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks slipped slightly, but Meta's Muse app and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call for slower frontier-model development reinforced the club's view that cybersecurity will remain important as AI agents spread. Both cybersecurity stocks have more than doubled this year, leading the club to remain cautious about chasing them. Jeff Marks called cybersecurity a cornerstone of the portfolio.
