Korean President Lee Jae Myung told Wall Street investors in New York that cooperation with U.S. President Donald Trump on naval shipbuilding could produce more tangible results. The two leaders discussed nuclear-powered submarine fuel, civil enrichment and reprocessing, and shipbuilding during a 30-minute summit on the margins of the UN General Assembly. Lee said plans are in place to build U.S. strategic naval vessels at the Philly Shipyard, with Hanwha investing, and highlighted cooperation on next-generation firepower systems. At the Korea Investment Summit 2026, he also promoted South Korea’s three megaprojects in semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centers, along with seven industries designated as next-generation growth engines. Lee said Seoul plans to expand semiconductor production hubs to double memory capacity within five years and build an AI supply chain resilient to shocks. He cited monthly exports above $100 billion in June and a projected annual export total of $1 trillion, while urging global investors to support Korea’s industrial expansion and market reforms.
