Chinese stocks fell on Thursday as uncertainty continued over the extension of the US-China trade truce. The Shanghai Composite dropped 0.4% to 3,921, while the Shenzhen Component declined 0.9% to 13,521. Treasury Secretary Bessent said the two countries had agreed to extend the truce by two months, through January 10, although China has not publicly confirmed that expiration date. The extension is shorter than the three-to-six-month continuation some US officials had previously suggested. Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the US for his first visit in 11 years, with the Trump-Xi summit expected to address artificial intelligence, Iran, Taiwan and broader economic relations. Foxconn Industrial Internet, Zijin Mining Group, CATL and Suzhou Dongshan Precision Manufacturing were among the notable decliners.
