The electronic chemicals and materials industry is undergoing a structural realignment as artificial intelligence accelerates hyperscale data-center construction, national semiconductor strategies and materials discovery, BCC Research said in its AI Impact on Electronic Chemicals and Materials Market - BCC Pulse Report (AIT251A). Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms and Microsoft plan to spend approximately $650 billion in 2026, largely on chip-packed data centers, while the $500 billion Stargate initiative led by OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank and MGX is funding multiple U.S. AI data-center campuses. The spending is increasing demand for advanced packaging materials, specialty gases, CMP slurries, photoresists, high-density substrates and thermal-management materials. Semiconductor expansion is also being supported by commitments from Texas Instruments, TSMC and Samsung, while South Korea has announced $950 billion in new AI initiatives. GenAI chips are expected to generate more than $500 billion in revenue by the end of 2026, or about 50% of global semiconductor sales, with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced packaging among the main beneficiaries. Government support includes a $500 million award to SandboxAQ, $236 million from Air Liquide for ultra-high-purity gas facilities in Japan and $751 million in German state aid for four semiconductor facilities. AI tools such as generative discovery, digital twins, process optimization, predictive maintenance and computer vision are shortening materials formulation cycles from months to weeks while improving yields, energy efficiency and defect detection. The report identifies PFAS regulation, U.S. export controls, concentrated supplies of critical minerals and precursor chemicals, and hyperscale spending potentially exceeding free cash flow by 2027 as key risks. It says suppliers exposed to advanced packaging, ultra-high-purity gases, EUV-compatible photoresists and HBM-related CMP slurries appear best positioned for near-term growth, while companies deploying AI-enabled discovery and digital manufacturing platforms may gain longer-term R&D advantages.
