US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's offer of a seven-day truce and told aides he expects new strikes after November's midterm elections, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. Iranian negotiators proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route, and restarting nuclear talks through mediators in Qatar if Washington lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports. US officials reportedly told Tehran and the mediators that the blockade would remain, calculating that continued economic pressure could eventually push Iran toward an agreement on Washington's terms. The report said Trump has alternated between diplomacy, military action and sanctions during the seven-month war, while privately doubting that Tehran will dismantle its nuclear program despite public claims that Iran wants a deal after the election. Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps has rejected new settlement terms, sought elements of a preliminary June accord and said it is prepared for a prolonged conflict.
