Latvia’s retail sales rose 3.5% year-on-year in August 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 6.8% increase in July and marking the weakest growth since April. Growth eased across food products, non-food goods excluding automotive fuel, and automotive fuel. Within non-food retail, sales growth slowed for information and communication equipment, hardware and construction materials, pharmaceutical and medical goods, and electrical household appliances. Clothing, footwear and leather goods were flat, while sales in non-specialised stores declined. Online and mail-order sales accelerated, as did cosmetic and toilet-article sales, but sales through stalls and markets fell 9.3%. On a monthly basis, retail sales dropped 1.4%, reversing a downwardly revised 2.2% increase in July.
