US President Donald Trump claimed the United States had taken more oil out of the Strait of Hormuz over the past several days than at any point in history. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said Iran was doing very poorly and would eventually give up, while acknowledging he did not know whether Tehran would concede yet. He reiterated that the US campaign was intended to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on Feb. 28, after which Tehran carried out missile and drone attacks across the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic energy-supply route. Efforts to end the conflict have continued since a June memorandum focused on reaching a final peace agreement covering navigation through the waterway and Iran's nuclear program.
